Au gouvernement depuis bientôt trois ans, le Pakistan Tehreek-e-Insaf (parti pour la justice sociale) a pour but de reformer intégralement le système scolaire. Dans le cadre de la dynamique Naya Pakistan — un plan d’action se déclinant en plusieurs axes et touchant à des domaines divers — le Single National Curriculum (SNC) est l’équivalent d’un cursus scolaire unique imposé à toute école dans le pays, qu’elle soit publique ou privée. Cette réforme augmente considérablement le temps dédié à l’enseignement coranique et islamique à l’école, et fait de l’ourdou (langue nationale), langue d’enseignement unique pour certaines matières. De telles réformes archaïques et rétrogrades mettront fort probablement en péril le mouvement des droits de la femme au Pakistan. Dans le passé, la formation du Women’s Action Forum (plateforme d’action en faveur des femmes) en 1983, puis sa mobilisation contre la dictature du général Zia fut le point fondateur mais aussi culminant de ce mouvement.
